Common questions
Is a pyramid roof the same as a hip roof?
It is a hip roof with no ridge. A standard hip has four sloping planes meeting at a short ridge; a pyramid hip has four planes meeting at a single point because the footprint is square. Everything about how it sheds water and wind is hip behaviour.
Do you re-roof gazebos and detached garages?
Yes. They are usually quoted alongside the main roof, because mobilising a crew for a small pyramid on its own makes the per-square price look unreasonable. If the house is being done, adding the outbuilding is efficient.
Why does the peak of my pyramid roof keep failing?
Because it is the hardest detail on the roof and it is often done cheaply. Four planes converge at one point that gets full sun and full wind. If it was finished with field shingles folded over the point rather than a purpose-made cap or a fabricated metal finial, it will fail well before the rest of the roof.
