Leavenworth calls itself the First City of Kansas for a reason: it was founded in 1854, before Kansas was even a state, and its housing stock tells that whole story. The city has eight National Register historic districts.

In neighborhoods like Arch Street and Union Park you find Victorian, Tudor, and Craftsman homes with steep pitches, dormers, tall chimneys, and framing that predates every modern roofing standard. Roofs like these punish shortcuts.
