Roof decking and underlayment in Prairie Village
With the old shingles removed on this Prairie Village roof, we could see the wood decking around the valley and a plumbing vent. Another photo shows underlayment going on above the porch. Both views document the roof before the new shingles cover it.

The decking around the valley and vent after tear-off.

What tear-off lets us see
The first photo shows the wood panels that support the roofing, the valley where two slopes meet, and the opening around a plumbing vent. Removing the shingles gives the crew access to check the decking before covering it again.
If decking needs repair, we photograph the area and explain the work to the homeowner. The amount depends on what we find after tear-off.
Covering the deck
Above the porch, underlayment covers the lower part of the slope while wood remains visible farther up. This layer sits beneath the shingles and helps shed water. Photos taken during installation record work that will be covered by the finished roof.
